Trello Review

In a Nutshell

Trello.com is a project management system geared towards quick and easy organization of assignments, and collaborative tasks (personal and business), on a global scale. This high-performance business software makes it easy to assign tasks, duties, and responsibilities to team members. Trello is a powerful aid in the visual organization of workloads, encompassing visual boards for efficient task management. The eponymous Trello board boasts a full array of features, functions, and options for project management, and project organization. To get started, a Trello card must be opened. Next, attachments are uploaded, due dates input, labels, and other pertinent data are added.

During our research on Project management tools, we’ve identified five key criteria for you to consider when choosing a Project management tool:
1. Customization capabilities
2. Core task-related features
3. Updated to evolving
needs
4. Popular 3rd party integrations
5. Ease of use.

Our reviews will examine each project management tool by how well it delivers on these five criteria.

How Trello meets the 5 criteria?

1. Customizable capabilities

Trello users have access to cards, boards, and lists to neatly, efficiently, and effectively manage projects. The visual components of these Trello to-do-lists and cards are user-friendly, and easy to operate. Team members can begin planning projects using Trello for all sorts of assignments – personal or business. The fully customizable tool presents all tasks, and options in a logical and coherent fashion. Users can gather information quickly, with ongoing tasks and completed tasks clearly displayed. The Trello boards can be tailored to project specifics, at the discretion of the project manager. Tasks that need to be completed, tasks that are in the process of being completed, and tasks that have been completed are displayed for quick referencing. This presents the workflow in a cogent format, making it much easier to complete the management control function.

2. Core Features and Functionality

While Trello masquerades as an easy-to-use project management system on the surface, it is packed with a treasure trove of core features and functions. Every Trello card is a veritable encyclopedia of information (when it is flipped over). The back of the card is populated with 3 major sections. These include the card description, comments and activity, and the add section. These are essential components of this project management system’s functionality. Project managers can add a wealth of information on to each card, including links to websites, and to-do lists. When collaboration with team members needs to take place, comments can easily be added in the form of updated data, feedback, and notifications. The add section is particularly useful in that it allows project managers to input important data such as due dates, members, checklists, and other attachments.

3. Developed and updated to evolving needs

Trello’s greatest successes come from its simplicity and ease-of-use. This project management system is geared towards enhanced productivity in a modern workforce. Accessible on PC, Mac, and mobile devices, this online project management system allows for enhanced productivity, improved collaboration, team management, administration, and adoption of new technology. The brains trust behind Trello’s development created the prototype of Trello in 2011. By 2012, the company boasted 500,000 global members and by 2014 this figure spiked to 4.75 million users. As one of the most sophisticated tools on the market, Trello is often billed as an empowerment system for managing teams and projects across the world. Team members can easily follow the project management cycle from inception to completion on Trello.

4. Applications and integrations

Trello has many powerful features and integrations, including Jira, Adobe XD, and Slack. Others include JotForm, FeedbackRig, Scrum for Trello, Timecamp, PipeThru, Instabug, Ollert, Ganttify, Trello in Confluence, HelpScout, GitLab, Twitter, Trello Calendar Connector, Firefox Save to Trello, Tick Time Tracking, Teamweek, Gmail to Trello, Card Numbers for Trello, Trello in Bitbucket, Extracts.io, and Roto for Trello, among many others. The integrations effectively allow project managers and team members to use all sorts of other programs and systems along with Trello projects in a seamless fashion. Other notable Trello power ups include the following: Daily Updates, Freshservice, LaunchDarkly, SendBoard, Butler, Calendar, Google Drive, Custom Fields, Map, and Slack.

5. Ease-of-use

Whether you’re new to the world of online project management tools and software, or an old hand at it, Trello is one of the easiest systems to use. Users can manage tasks with simple boards, cards, and lists. With so many integrations (100+) with this system, anyone who is familiar with Google Drive, Twitter, Slack, Jira and dozens of others will have absolutely no problems using Trello. It is intuitively designed with visual elements (cards, boards, and lists) in a logical format.

Plans and pricing

Trello has three standard plans available for project management. The first is a free plan billed at $0 per user per month, ad infinitum. For most people, this plan is adequate. It offers unlimited personal boards, unlimited cards, unlimited lists, and 10 MB per file attachment. The team feature component allows for 10 team boards, and 1 power upper board is permissible. It also features 2-factor authentication for enhanced security.

Business class plans are billed at $9.99 per user per month annually. There are many additional benefits to the business class membership, including 250 MB per file attachment, priority customer support, observers, customized backgrounds and stickers, unlimited team boards, board collections, and a variety of power-ups including 100+ app integrations. Advanced security protocols are available for the business plan, including the ability to deactivate members, advanced administrative permissions, domain restrictions, and sign-on via Google apps.

An enterprise-level plan is also available and is billed at $20.83 per user per month, for up to 100 users. It features the same standard elements as the business class plan and the same team features. Identical power-ups are available, with additional admin and security features for enhanced security at the enterprise level. This includes things like single sign-on for all SAML IdPs, attachment restrictions, personalized onboarding, organization-wide permissions, and public board management.

Customer service and support

Trello members can easily ask the Trello community for assistance at any time. The community includes millions of other users. The option to contact Trello support is also available, courtesy of a dedicated team of experts ‘Trello-employed Support Specialists’ standing by to answer questions on security matters, plans, billing, and related information. Multiple languages are supported at Trello, including: English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Russian, Suomi, Japanese, Tagalog and others. The support representatives are professional, polite, and prompt in their interactions with users.

Bottom Line

Trello is a powerful project management system with a myriad of applications and integrations designed for maximum ease of use. Trello comes in three different packages, including a free version, a business version, and an enterprise-level version. This visual system makes use of cards, lists, and boards to display important data, with due dates, ongoing activities, to-do activities, and completed activities. Trello certainly serves its purpose as one of the world’s preferred project management software options, but it is not always the best choice for large-scale projects.
